Beat 3 starts below the Ardross Castle water approximately 200 metres below one of the biggest waterfalls on the river, and the March pool can hold fish at low water when these falls are not easily navigated.

The top section of the beat is cloaked by conifer plantation, around the March and as the river cascades down through the Dalreoch Falls to Shingle Bend. From there the drop continues down to the Parks, where it opens out to a valley of permanent grassland bordered by deciduous woodland.

There is another quick descent after the Ace pool before a series of pools, runs and pots continues to the Stones pool at the bottom of the beat. From there the river begins to descend rapidly again into Beat 4.

There are many good holding pools throughout the beat; the March, Dalreoch Falls, Shingle Bend and Upper Parks in particular on the upper half of the beat, and Ace, Dalreoch Burn (aka the Junction pool), Folly and Stones on the lower half.

Ace and Stones are amongst the best high water pools on the Novar beats, but there are also numerous small pools and runs throughout the beat that can produce grilse in low water.
