Novar Fishings - Beat 2

A small waterfall at Strone and the estate road bridge that crosses there, is the starting point for Beat 2. From here the river tumbles down the falls to the Garden pool followed by a few smaller pools, before reaching the Long Pool, a long slow glide, which fishes best in high water. The Black Burn is another important spawning stream for salmon and sea trout, and the Junction Pool, at the point where it joins the main river is an excellent holding pool throughout the summer and autumn. Below the Junction Pool the river twists through flatter pasture, and there are a series of excellent pools and runs perfect for the fly, culminating with the Meadow Flats.

The lower half of the beat starts with the Slip Pool, from where the river starts to drop steeply down to and then through a section of gorge with many pots and glides, ending with Lower Pot, just above the Blackwater tributary.
