A small waterfall at Strone and the estate road bridge that crosses there, is the starting point for Beat 2. From here the river tumbles down the falls to the Garden pool followed by a few smaller pools, before reaching the Long Pool, a long slow glide, which fishes best in high water.

The Black Burn is another important spawning stream for salmon and sea trout, and the Junction Pool, at the point where it joins the main river is an excellent holding pool throughout the summer and autumn.

Below the Junction Pool the river twists through flatter pasture, and there are a series of excellent pools and runs. The river then straightens for a sequence of pools collectively known as the Meadow Flats; perfect fly water.

The lower half of the beat starts with the Slip Pool which incorporates a near 90 degree left turn. From here the river starts to drop steeply down to, and then through, a section of gorge with many step pools, pots and glides, parts of which remain shaded throughout the summer months.

The beat ends with Lower Pot, just above the confluence with the Blackwater tributary.
